What do I need to do after I change my company name?

There’s a lot to think about if you’re considering changing your company name. The good news is that it’s not a complicated process. Firstly, we’ll let Companies House know about the proposed change, and complete all the paperwork so your new name appears on the public register as soon as possible.

After this, you’ll need to let HMRC know about the name change for tax purposes. Updating your business bank account is the next step, and all you need to do is contact your banking provider. Of course, don’t forget to update your clients, suppliers, or customers.

Remember, your name change won’t be official until Companies House confirm and register it. After that, you’ll receive a ‘Certificate of Incorporation on Change of Name’ via email. Once this happens, you’re free to update your business cards as you wish and begin trading under your new name.

What are annual accounts and the Confirmation Statement?

Essentially, these are documents that detail general information about your company, such as your registered office address, director’s details, and business activities for a fiscal year. Companies, both trading and dormant, have to file a Confirmation Statement at least once a year to Companies House, and failure to do so is a criminal offence — directors can be fined personally for this.

However, the reason they exist is actually to benefit your business. Share certificates:
